It is not just coatings and materials that can be measured for bond strength. It is also critical to find out the exact bond strength between many types of laminated materials. The PAT adhesion tester makes this testing process very easy.
The test procedure is almost identical to coating testing. On important difference is the necessity to cut out the circumference of the test element through the laminated layer in order to isolate it from the rest of the surface.
The resulting cylindrical test sample resembles traditional tensile testing (in a tensile testing machine) but with one big difference: Unlike in tensile testing machines (even those with universal link connections in both ends of the sample) perfectly uniform stress distribution is ensured with the DFD® pull technology.
Below are the various adhesion testing models best suited for measuring laminate tensile strength:
1) Manual testing
GM01/6.3kN
The most popular all-round manual bond strength pull-off tester with a whole range of test element sizes ranging from Ø8.16mm to 8.16mm to Ø50mm giving much testing flexibility for a wide variety of materials.
GM04/20kN
Testing with 20 kN gives more pull strength and is suitable for up to 8.5MPa/1200psi with the Ø50mm test elements.
GM04/40kN
The most powerful manual testing machine with up to 40kN pull force.
2) Automatic Tensile Pull Testing
The automatic adhesion testing machine ensures consistent testing, easy operation and digital logging option
AT101E/6.3kN
The automatic equivalent of model GM01, this is an all-round testing machine for a wide variety of test element sizes ranging from Ø8.16mm to 8.16mm to Ø50mm giving much testing flexibility for a wide variety of materials.
AT101E/20kN
If testing of higher bond strength is required the 20kN machine is a good alternative.
AT101E/40kN
If testing of higher bond strength is required the 20kN machine is a good alternative.
AT101E/80kN
The most powerful testing machine in the range. Used for the high tensile laminates.
AT101E/1kN
A specialty testing machine with only 1kN pull force. This model is used with very small test elements ranging from Ø2.8mm.
